Kailua at a Glance
Kailua is located on the eastern side of the island of Oahu,
also referred to as the Windward Coast. Only 12 mi (19 km) northeast of Honolulu,
the smaller, mainly residential city of Kailua shares many of Honolulu’s larger
accommodations and tourist attractions. Kailua is known for its natural clear
blue water and white-sand beaches of Kailua
Beach Park and Lanikai
Beach, both of which boast world-renowned waves that are ideal for surfing
and kite boarding. Visitors can experience the adjacent Kailua Bay and Pacific
Ocean on boat and kayak trips or on a snorkeling tour. Cultural points of interest
include the Rankin
Gallery, the Lighthouse
on Kukailimoku Point and the Allegra
Performing Arts Center. Visitor accommodations within the city are predominately
offered by local bed and breakfasts and vacation home rentals.
